We Serve!

To ensure a smooth transaction or information dissemination by user during their endeavor in the Library, we provide a few services desk around the library premises. A service desk is a communications center that provides a single point of contact (SPOC) between us and library users. The purpose of a service desk is to ensure that users receive appropriate help in a timely manner and also act as a helping point for users who wish to get an extra hand on certain library services, resources or tools based on their location. Do not hesitate to approach any of the services desk if you need guidance especially at Circulation One Stop Center as it is the main core of our service communication with you.

Circulation One Stop Center

Circulation One Stop Center is focuses on delivering a library services to users that related to the circulation orientation such as borrowing or returning library materials, fine payment, pick-up reservation item, request to locate items on shelf etc.

Services Provided

  • Borrowing or Returning Library Material - Besides using the Self Check/Book Drop machines to handle your borrowing/returning items activity, you can also asked the staff at this desk to help you manage the transaction especially if the items need a special treat such as unable to identify the metadata record by the Self Check/Book Drop machine, unable to use the Self Check/Book Drop machine on certain issues, you need to clarify your account record, unpaid fines, you are a first timer in the library,  etc.
  • Paying Fines - For those who have an overdue borrowing items, fines will be charged automatically by the system based on the items category. You can make the payment here and a copy of the receipt will be given as an official transaction.
  • Pick-Up Reservation Items - If you have made a reservation on circulated item, you can pick-up the item here on the due date or check your email for the status confirmation. The item will only be placed at this desk for 4 days for pick-up before re-shelving if there are no claim occurs.
  • Request to Locate Items - On certain time, an item will be misplaced or being used by other users especially on peak time such as exam or course work weeks. If you're unable to find the item even though the system showed that it is available on shelf or the item is located at a Stack Room, please do not hesitate to approach our staff for help. Just fill in a form available and we will notified you within 3 days.
  • Library Account Issues - If you have an issues with your library account profiles, unsolved fines transaction, unable to login etc, you can get help from the staff to re-check the problems. Please provide necessary evidence such as identification or student card, passport, verification from the authorities etc in doing so.
  • Library Admission Issues - You might get hold up at the entry of the library as your staff/student card are not readable by the security system. Do not panic, validate your status with the monitoring staff and approach this desk to check your card for any complication.
  • Report of Lost Items - If you have lost the borrowed items while in your possession, please approach as soon as possible at this desk and asked the staff for help. You have to fill in a Lost Items report form before any action can be taken. Due to that we will arrange for an appointment with our Circulation Librarians to settle the issue in prudent way.

Information Desk

Information Desk is a one stop point of Reference Service conducted by a Librarian which enables users to get information and guidance regarding resources available in the library.

Services Provided

  • In Person Consultation - a professional service offered by the Reference and Information Service Division absolutely vary from hectic atmosphere at the Information Desk. Get Personal!
  • Reference & Information - Users can get advice on finding background information, selecting and evaluating resources, searching for information, and citing research technique or resource acquisition on information required.
  • User Education Sessions - Information skills are taught in user education classes, organized from time to time. Students may check out the schedule for the classes.
  • Helpful Library Guide & User Tips - Practical guides and tips related to online databases, library catalogue, library service and facilities are available here.
  • Research Information Service - It is a fee based service aimed at supporting research activities by providing professional information search and retrieval.
  • General Queries - Meet with a reference librarian to identify useful sources, learn to search databases effectively, or just get started in the library. You can also ask for directions or any guidance while you're in the Library.
  • Address a Complaint - If you have an issues regarding our services, resources, facilities or tools, please do not hesitate to approach and consult with our Librarian for help. We might be able to solve the issues on the spot or you can fill in the Complaint form for an official notice.

Law & Red Spot Collection Desk

Law & Red Spot Collection Desk is design to specially facilitate queries related to the Red Spot and Law & Legislation collection installed in this semi close access environment. This means that you can easily access the Law collection and borrow the items (based on your eligibility) but you can only referred to the Red Spot collection if you have the items exact title or location in hand.

Services Provided

  • Borrowing Red Spot Items - Approach the staffs on duty with the items call number or title in hand so that they can search the exact location of the items from the Red Spot collection shelves. Please bear in mind that most of the materials are for short loan period such as overnight loan or hourly basis.
  • Borrowing Law Books - If you have retrieved the items, you can ask the staff to check out the items for you at this desk. You can also use the Self Check machine which available nearby at the same floor.

Special Collection Desk

It is serve to facilitate users who have a queries or problems in accessing the collection which consist of valuable and vulnerable publications, including Rare books, UUM Theses & Dissertation, Students Academic Exercise, Research Reports, UUM VC's Collection, Tun Dr. Mahathir Collection, Company Reports etc.

Services Provided

  • Borrowing Media Items - Approach the staffs on duty with the items call number or title in hand so that they can search the exact location of the items from the media collection compartment. Items such as cd-rom, cd's or dvd's are available to be borrowed (based on the user eligibility)  and the users are advise to return the items at the same location.
  • Accessing Special Collection - Most of the materials in Special Collection are very rare and arranged in a close access environment. Users are not allowed to browse the items like they normally do at the General collection unless you have the items exact location in hand. You can ask the staffs to help you locate the items or use the LibSearch.

Security Desk

To maintain a smooth services, safety and continuous monitoring system, we provide Security Desks at the entry of both library buildings. Staff will be available at all time during library service session and can help you with security issues such as unable to access the security access door, lost items report, nuisance report, thievery controlling etc.

It is also advise to all user that the security staffs will hold a random check on users at the entrance or exit doors for security reason from time to time without notice. We ask the users not to panic but assist the routine procedure and move along when finished.

 

Task Force Desk

If you need any help on finding books from shelf, unable to locate an area or tools, asking for directions, helping in reaching books from the shelves etc, do not hesitate to reach out at any of the Task Force staffs. These desks are located at the Level 1 (Ground Floor)  of New Building which were specially created to assist user with their difficulties in accessing library materials or books.
