Establishment Initiative

• The Sudut Sasterawan Negara is proposed by the Chief Librarian of Perpustakaan Sultanah Bahiyah and UUM to honor and promote the works of Malaysia’s Sasterawan Negara.

• Aims to raise awareness and interest in literature among students while fostering well-rounded individuals.

Prime Minister’s Concern

• On 30 May 2023, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed concern about the lack of student interest in literature, language, and culture, particularly works by local figures.

• Introducing Sasterawan Negara in universities is seen as a step to reignite appreciation for local literature.

Objectives of Sudut Sasterawan Negara

• Showcase the works and thoughts of National Laureates through various platforms.

• Strengthen the role of literature in shaping students’ character.

• Enhance campus appreciation for Malaysian literature and its moral values.

• Encourage reading, discussion, and scholarly discourse about Sasterawan Negara’s works at the university level.

Support for Reading Campaigns

• Promote all 15 Sasterawan Negara, recipients of Malaysia’s Sasterawan Negara Award for their significant contributions to literature.

• Encourage students and the campus community to explore and appreciate the quality works of National Laureates.

• Address the lack of student awareness about these distinguished literary figures and their inspiring contributions.
